The use of complex systems from nature and mathematics in music composition opens a wide field of reflections: What are the meeting and collision points between science and music? What is the meaning and the need to use these models in artistic creation? Is the model a tool or an idea generator? Where is the border between freedom and rigor? What is the influence of the model into the musical result? What is the difference between using mathematical models and other exogenous resources? All these issues are faced through the composing process of the five string quartets cycle Liturgia fractal, based on several fractal models.

Alberto Posadas (Valladolid, 1967) is a composer whose music revolves around the application of exogenous models to the composition process, the relationship with other artistic disciplines and the exploration of the features of instruments at a micro level. He has been awarded with the National Music Prize by the Spanish Ministry of Culture (2011), with a stipend as artist in residence at the Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia in Bamberg, by the Free State of Bavaria (2014), and nominated as a fellow by the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin (2016).
